Masterclass

All day oil painting portrait workshop with Jeremy burns

What we'll do:

We will be painting a portrait from a photo using minimal materials and a limited palette of oil paints. This workshop is suitable for both absolute beginners and more advanced painters.
Duration 6 hours with a lunchbreak.
Oil paint is one of the most forgiving and versatile mediums available to us. It often gets a reputation for being less accessible than water based paints, but in this workshop you will discover that nothing could be further from the truth.

By bridging the gap between drawing and painting you will be surprised at how forgiving oil paint really is, and how much you can achieve  in a single day of painting, without having to wait for the paint to dry. You will discover how to apply and remove paint, much like you would if you were drawing with charcoal and a rubber, only with oil paint you can make countless mistakes which can all be covered up. This means that you can relax and paint without any fear!

We just need to be focused on what we’re doing.

There are certain fundamental elements to drawing and painting form observation that are very useful to have an understanding of. Perhaps the most important one is learning how to see. During the workshop I will be demonstrating the entire painting process while talking through what I am doing and why. The lessons will be very relaxed and I welcome questions at any point.

I will also be giving individual help along the way and making sure everyone is going steadily at their own pace. The workshop should be treated as a learning exercise with no pressure or feeling like you have to produce a masterpiece. Have fun and learn some of the incredible possibilities of oil painting!
